There's very few detailed accounts around for North to South attempts of the Welsh 3000s. Here's my account, made on Saturday 27 July 2013, which may help any budding N-S 3000ers with their attempts.

On Friday 11th June 10.30 PM the team met up over coffee on a campsite at the foot Tryfan, weather was unnervingly clear and Tryfan was silhouetted majestically against the moon light.

After completing some long distance walks in the Lake District over the last few years myself and two friends decided it was time to try a different area for this years 'annual challenge'. The Welsh 3000ers seemed perfect.

Llandrillo-yn-Rhos Venture Scouts took a group of 16 year olds over the full traverse on June 21st 1969. We're guessing that not many 16 year olds today would attempt the traverse!

Gordon Lindsay Jones, a long-standing member, recalls a circuit from the 1960's. He also spent part of the 60's jumping the gap between Adam & Eve, the summit stones on Tryfan! Not something to misjudge!

Ian Rae had a "Steve Redgrave moment" while doing the traverse. He did the walk to convince himself he was still young and fit - and also to raise some sponsorship money for a good cause.

Forget the 14/15 argument. Some guys armed with computers, lasers and a rather expensive GPS have come up with peak number 16! We are sticking to the historic 14, but please don't let us stop you from enjoying a few more.

Snowdonia Society Director Alun Pugh and Trail magazine editor Matt Swaine carefully prepared for their 14 peaks travese - by riding bicycles. Not a recommended strategy but it ended happily at the Foel Fras trig.
